- Step 1: What to do when you’ve had an accident
-
You’re in shock, you may even be injured or incapacitated. We hope you’ve never been in this situation before, if you have you’ll know that it’s important to stay calm and keep your wits about you.
The first thing to remember is that you should never admit liability at the roadside; various factors may have contributed to the incident that mean you were not liable, even if, in the shock of the moment, you suspect you were.
Simply exchange your insurance details with the other parties involved, if the police attend answer their questions fully, and if necessary, make arrangements for your vehicle to be recovered from the scene.
This is the point at which to call on KAG. We can make prompt arrangements to bring your vehicle in for repair, with minimal inconvenience to you, whatever the circumstances of your accident.
We would not advise you to contact your insurance company at this time. Contact KAG first and we will use our experience and industry knowledge to ensure you get the best possible outcome.
-
- Step 2: Agreeing who pays for the repair
-
The most onerous part of accident repairs for all concerned, is working out who will foot the bill. This largely depends on who admits liability for the accident. The good news is you don’t have to get involved in any disputes directly. We can handle everything on your behalf, whatever the circumstances of the accident.
KAG will, on your behalf, speak to all parties to obtain their version of the accident. We can then establish an accurate picture of the event before your claim is submitted to your insurers. Here’s what happens once liability is established.
If you were not at fault
- The other party’s insurer will pay for your repair
- There will be no excess to pay
- You will be entitled to a like for like replacement vehicle
- We will notify all relevant parties about the accident claim
- Your No Claims Bonus remains intact
- Your insurance premium will not rise as a result of the accident
- We will help you recover all losses arising from the accident
- We will seek to mitigate losses to ensure that all costs remain fair and reasonable level.
If you were at fault, or liability is spilt
- We will help you claim under the terms of your insurance policy
- We will liase with your insurers throughout the process
- We can arrange recovery, collection and delivery of your vehicle to minimise inconvenience
- We will provide you with a free courtesy car for the duration of the repairs
- We will give you a contribution towards your excess as a thankyou for using our services
- We can advise you on alternative repair solutions, if you decide not to claim on your insurance policy
- We will keep you informed about the progress of your repairs.
- We guarantee to carry out all work in line with your expectations
-
- Step 3: Estimating and authorising the repair
-
KAG will never commence repairs without estimating them first, and gaining authorisation from you or the relevant insurer. We will always:
» Make a preliminary inspection of your vehicle to give an initial estimate
» Request authorisation from the insurer and yourself to commence work
» Our relationship with some insurers allows us to proceed with repairs immediately
» In other cases we take responsibility for ensuring repairs commence as soon as possible
» Sometimes hidden damage becomes apparent once we start to disassemble the vehicle
» In these circumstances we will of course issue a supplementary estimate and gain further authority to complete the work.
-
- Step 4: Completing the repair
-
With work estimated and authorised we will agree mutually convenient times and dates for the repair, arrange for any necessary parts to be delivered and ensure a courtesy car is available for the entire time your vehicle is in our care
Once repairs commence we will keep you updated during the repair process, giving you at least one day’s notice before the car is ready to be returned. In the meantime we are happy to answer any questions you may have during the repair process over the phone or via email.
-
- Step 5: Returning your vehicle
-
We will return the vehicle to your home or office, all repairs completed to Kitemark British Standards, including a safety check, and with your car cleaned inside and out.
Any payment due can be made by cash, credit or debit cards. Naturally no vehicle can be released without payment. We will ask you to sign a collection note to confirm you have received the car back into your care and issue you with a 5-year guarantee against our repairs.
